The Australia rail network is extensive, and provides a real opportunity to travel and explore Australia in comfort and safety. The three major rail networks of Australia are the Great Southern Railway, the Queensland Rail and CountryLink. All offering the opportunity of travelling by rail all over the country. Travel from the far north to the outback region: from Cairns to Perth to Alice Springs and use famous trains like 'The Queenslander', 'The Indian Pacific' and 'The Ghan' and 'XPT rail services.

Age Groups

|
Railpasses sold by RailChoice are for adults, aged sixteen and above. Infants up to four years old travel free and do not need a pass.
|

Classes of Travel
|
|
|
|
Railpasses are issued in economy class only (Red Kangaroo). Upgrading to First Class seating is possible only once you are in Australia, upon payment of the appropriate supplement.
|
|
|
|
Validity and pass types

The validity of all passes is six months, starting from the date you begin using it. For different pass types please check individual railpass conditions below.

General Conditions.
|
|
|
|
Railpasses are only available to non-Australian passport holders and non-Australia residents.
|
|
|
|
RailChoice will provide you with a voucher to be exchanged in Australia on arrival. You have six months from the issue date to exchange your voucher, and from the day the voucher is exchanged you have six months in which to complete your rail travel (or the time validity shown on your pass). Lost, stolen or validated/exchanged vouchers or railpasses cannot be refunded. Refunds are only accepted on vouchers returned to RailChoice. Please note that a small handling fee will be charged on each pass returned to us.

'Austrail Flexipass' Rules and Conditions.
|
|
|
|
The Austrail Flexipass is the railpass of choice if you plan to see as much of Australia as possible. This railpass allows you to travel in Economy/Red Kangaroo seats on the services of the Great Southern Railway, Queensland Rail and CountryLink. The railpass is available for travel on the whole of the Rail Australia network including:

Great Southern Railway's The Ghan, Indian Pacific and Overlander

All the CountryLink network (reservations required on all services)

Queensland Rail's network with the exclusion of The Savannahlander ( but The Sunlander & the Cairns Tilt Train can be boarded upon payment of a supplement)

The Austrail Flexipass is also valid on all CityRail services operated by Railcorp. The railpass overall validity is six months, within which you choose to have 15 or 22 days of travel.

Great Southern Railway - 'Rail Explorer Pass' Rules and Conditons
|
|
|
|
This railpass provides an economical way to experience Australia aboard the famous Indian Pacific, The Ghan and The Overland trains. This railpass is valid on 'Red Kangaroo Daynighter seat'. On these trains, you have access to a Lounge Carriage for relaxation and sightseeing and the Dining Carriage where snacks and meals are available. The seats have ample leg room and can swivel to face each other should you fancy a bit of socialising. Showers and toilet facilities are at the end of each carriage where towels and soap are provided for each traveller. With this railpass you have six months of unlimited travel throughout the Great Railway Network with as many stopovers as you like!

'East Coast Discovery Railpass' Rules and Conditions.
|
|
|
|
This railpass is valid on Mainline CountryLink and Queensland Rail, East Coast Rail and Integrated Coach services in one direction only, either North or South, with unlimited stopovers for a six month period. Travel on Sydney City Rail services is allowed only in conjunction with a connecting CountryLink service. Travel is not allowed on either Brisbane City Train except to Robina (Gold Coast) or Melbourne Met services.

Please note that travel is permitted on the Cairns Tilt Train on payment of a surcharge.

You will be able to travel between Sydney and Melbourne, Melbourne and Cairns, Brisbane and Cairns, and so on. Please check the table below for more details.
Also you can take a side trip to Outback New South Wales and Queensland and receive a 50% discount off the full adult fare, or when the adventure is over receive a 50% discount off the full adult fare to get back to where your trip started.

'Backtracker Pass' Rules and Conditions.
|
|
|
|
The Backtracker railpass is the best way to discover New South Wales and beyond.
|
|
This railpass is valid for unlimited travel backwards and forwards between Sydney and Melbourne, and Sydney and Brisbane and through New South Wales on all CountryLink services and connecting CountryLink coaches. The pass is also valid for Sydney CityRail services if they are in conjunction with a connecting CountryLink service. The Backtracker railpass validity is fourteen consecutive days, one consecutive month, three consecutive months or six consecutive months.
